State of Colorado redesignates McKee Medical Center Trauma Services
LOVELAND, Colo. (July 2, 2010) – McKee Medical Center has earned redesignation by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment as a Level III trauma center. State surveyors visited McKee on June 23.
The hospital has been designated as a Level III center since 1996. The state surveys the hospital every three years to make sure facility programs continue to meet the expectations of the state’s trauma system.
A hospital designated as a Level III Trauma Center provides initial evaluation and stabilization to the trauma patient. Comprehensive medical and surgical inpatient services are available to patients who are admitted. Patients who have injuries that require specialized services not available at a Level III facility are stabilized and transferred to a higher level trauma facility.
Emergency physicians and nurses are immediately available, and surgeons within 20 minutes, to assess, resuscitate, stabilize and treat patients admitted to the trauma care service.
Karen Lindhorst, McKee Trauma Services director, said the surveyors conduct a comprehensive review of the trauma program including policies and procedures, availability of equipment and diagnostic services, and education and training of the staff caring for the trauma patient.
“McKee has history of over 30 years of providing health care in our community. Our continued commitment to maintain our Level III trauma center status in the state trauma system is evidence of our commitment to our community,” Lindhorst said.
McKee’s Emergency department features a state-of-the art design. With 17 universal private rooms including two trauma bays and three additional minor treatment bays, health care providers are able to more efficiently serve patients.
