Banner Health, Mesa Community College mark 30 years of educating nurses

PHOENIX, (Oct. 4, 2010)  – For 30 years, Banner Boswell and Mesa Community College have partnered to educate more than 1,000 nursing students throughout the Valley, setting the bar for clinical excellence in nursing.

To celebrate, MaricopaNursing, Banner Boswell Medical Center and Mesa Community College are hosting an open house from 3-5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at the Banner Boswell Nursing Education Center, 10484 W. Thunderbird Blvd., in Sun City.

Since the first graduating class in 1982, students have completed their education at one of two campuses, Banner Boswell MaricopaNursing campus in Sun City or the Mesa Community College in Mesa. The campuses provide skilled medical professionals to health facilities across the Valley.

“Our nursing school would not be what it is today and we would not be able to provide the best graduates possible, if it were not for the collaboration of everyone involved in this partnership,” said MaricopaNursing Program Director Paulette Compton. “Our faculty has high expectations for student performance and our students consistently rise to meet those high expectations.”

During the past 30 years, generous financial support from the community through Sun Health Foundation has provided a campus, training equipment, faculty and staff salaries, and student scholarships. Today, the foundation continues strong scholarship support for nursing students assisting them in achieving their goals including the recent addition of simulation training for students.

The Oct. 27 open house will celebrate the partnership’s commitment to education and clinical excellence in nursing.  Members of the community, alumni and students are invited to attend. A short program will highlight 30 years of accomplishments. Tours of the nursing school also will be conducted.

Media interested in attending the event, or who would like to interview those involved with the Banner Boswell Mesa Community College in advance of the event, please call one of the contacts listed above.
