Vouchers available for those who need blood drawn for health fair
LOVELAND, Colo. (April 8, 2010) – To accommodate more individuals, organizers of the Loveland Community Health Fair have created a voucher system for people still needing to have their blood drawn for screening.
The blood screenings and blood draws are done in advance of the 2010 Loveland Community Health Fair, where participants can pick up their blood results and visit with a health care professional. The health fair, will be 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 24 in the McKee Conference and Wellness Center at 2000 Boise Ave., Loveland.
People can purchase a voucher for their blood screening at McKee Wellness Services, 1805 E. 18th St. #6, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Then, they can take the voucher to the Outpatient Lab in McKee Medical Center at any time to have their blood drawn. Lab services are available 24/7. Fasting is required unless the patient is diabetic. Instructions will be on the voucher. Results from blood drawn by April 20 will be available for pick up at the health fair on April 24. Results from blood drawn after April 20 will be mailed to the individual’s address. Vouchers also will be available the day of the health fair and results will be mailed.
In addition, there are walk-in appointments beginning Tuesday, April 6 through Saturday, April 10 from 6:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. at the McKee Conference and Wellness Center. Participants can pay and have their blood drawn for the fair. Again, fasting is required prior to the blood draw unless the patient is diabetic.
Participants can receive a blood chemistry screening for $30, complete blood count (CBC) blood screening for $15, prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood screening for $25, and a take-home colorectal kit for $5. The high sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hs-CRP) screening, for $15, can be helpful in assessing the risk of heart attack and stroke.
The health fair also offers free screenings for breast health, bone density, asthma, hearing and vision, foot and ankle, glaucoma, memory, posture and oral and skin cancer as well as educational booths.
The health fair is not a substitute for a thorough physical examination and assessment by your physician. Individuals planning to participate are reminded that they should work with their personal physician to reduce modifiable risk factors determined through the event. Also, medications should not be altered before or after the health fair unless you’ve been advised to do so by your physician.
Sponsors of the annual event include City of Loveland, Larimer County Medical Society, Loveland Chamber of Commerce, Loveland Daily Reporter-Herald, Mountain States Tent and Awning and McKee Medical Center.
