Six years, 100,000 patients
PHOENIX (Jan. 14, 2011) – Today, Jan. 14, Banner Estrella Medical Center celebrates a sixth year of providing excellent care to residents in the Southwest Valley.
The hospital marks an important milestone on its sixth birthday – Banner Estrella has treated more than 100,000 inpatients since opening in 2005. The number includes newborns, as the West Phoenix hospital has become the go-to center for welcoming babies to the world.
Through 2010, other statistics for the busy medical center include:
- Number of deliveries: 16,457
- Number of surgeries, including outpatient: 28,174
- Number of Emergency Department visits: 418,207
On the heels of the anniversary comes the designation of one of the hospital’s intensive care units (ICU) as a Multi Organizational Service Unit (MOSU) by the Arizona Department of Health Services. This provides a great benefit to patients—because it prevents the person from having to move to different parts of the hospital. For example, if a person starts out in ICU, they stay there, even while improving their condition. This development reduces stress on the patient as well as family members.
“The designation of the MOSU unit is a great way to recognize our sixth year of service to our neighborhoods,” said Rob Gould, chief executive officer. “We are pleased to see the number of people willing to trust Banner Estrella with their health care needs continue to rise. It is both an honor and privilege to serve our residents and we are deeply committed to the pursuit of excellence in patient care, safety and satisfaction as Banner moves toward becoming the industry leader.”
