Medical reference book by Banner research physician first of its kind for psychiatrists, behavioral health clinicians

SUN CITY, Ariz. (Sept 14, 2011) —  Lauded as “an invaluable resource for every practicing psychiatrist,” a new medical reference book by Sandra Jacobson, MD, Clinical Investigator at Banner Sun Health Research Institute has just been released by American Psychiatric Publishing.

The book, “Laboratory Medicine in Psychiatry and Behavioral Science,”  is being called “a significant contribution to the psychiatric reference library,” with content “essential to the practice of modern psychiatry and behavioral medicine.” According to the publisher, the book is the only one of its kind on the market.

“The book was written to provide busy clinicians with a single source of information detailing when to order laboratory tests, how to advise patients to prepare for testing, and how to interpret test findings,” said Jacobson. “The book also catalogs the links between various test abnormalities and clinical symptoms of memory impairment, confusion, depression, anxiety, seizures, drug abuse, and other neuropsychiatric conditions.  In addition, the book provides guidance in the use of laboratory testing needed when psychotropic medications are prescribed”

Jacobson has previously published the Handbook of Geriatric Psychopharmacology, with colleagues Ron Pies and David Greenblatt; and the Clinical Manual of Geriatric Psychopharmacology, with Ron Pies and Ira Katz.

She is board-certified in Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry, Clinical Neurophysiology, and Psychosomatic Medicine (Medical Psychiatry).

She came to Banner Sun Health Research Institute in 2006 from the Warren Alpert School of Medicine and the Miriam Hospital at Brown University in Providence, RI. Previously, she held positions at Massachusetts General Hospital at Harvard University and Tufts New England Medical Center. Her current work is focused on neuropsychiatric aspects of Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.
