Banner Arizona Medical Clinic utilizes new automated patient reminder system
![]() |
Similar to prescription and appointment reminder systems used by pharmacies and dental offices, the Phytel Proactive Patient Outreach system offers an enhanced method of communication to improve patient quality and safety. Patients will now receive automated telephone calls from BAMC offices to:
- Verify a scheduled appointment
- Schedule preventative care services
- Provide reminders to help manage chronic conditions, such as diabetes or heart conditions.
“The Phytel system is a nationally-recognized program that assists our physicians in helping to ensure that the patient’s health issues are followed according to the most up-to-date guidelines,” said Alan Grobman, MD, chief medical officer for Banner Medical Group – Arizona West Region. ”This goes beyond the conventional appointment reminder system; it leverages our patient’s electronic medical record to provide the most appropriate care.”
This state-of-the-art, computerized program will regularly track the patient’s medical care needs and then send a pre-recorded message when the patient is due for an office visit, tests, or other services. Because of patient privacy regulations, the automated messages won’t provide detailed medical information; instead, the message will request that patients call the office where a staff member will explain the recommended care.
“Our commitment to the wellness of our patients is reflected in this new program,” said Tammy Airola, Banner Arizona Medical Clinic executive director. “We are confident that by proactively reaching out to our patients through this new program, we will be able to improve the quality of care we provide, leading to better health outcomes for our patients; and to strengthen the relationship between our patients and their providers
Banner Arizona Medical Clinic, with 13 medical offices in northwest Maricopa County, is part of nonprofit Banner Health, the leading provider of health care services with 23 hospitals throughout the west. For more information, visit us online at www.BannerHealth.com/BAMC.
