Banner Health wins ‘Top Leadership Teams in Healthcare’ Award

Health Leader Leadership AwardPHOENIX (Aug. 18, 2011) – Banner Health has received the 2011 “Top Leadership Teams in Healthcare” Award by the national trade publication, HealthLeaders, a leading provider of health care business information for industry executives.

Banner Health, one of the nation’s largest nonprofit health systems, won the Top Leadership Teams award in the “large hospitals and health systems” category.

The award program is designed to celebrate the outstanding teamwork that occurs in health care organizations each day, to share what makes top leadership teams successful, and to encourage other health care leaders to learn more from the best practices of top leadership teams. This year, HealthLeaders recognized outstanding leadership teamwork at three hospitals and one medical group practice.

“The Top Leadership Teams program was founded on the premise that the core value for every successful health care organization must be teamwork—this year’s winners certainly demonstrate that concept,” says Gienna Shaw, a senior editor at HealthLeaders, who oversaw this year’s program.

The 2011 winners are:

  • Banner Health, Phoenix, Ariz., for Large Hospitals and Health Systems (500 or more licensed beds)
  • Kadlec Regional Medical Center, Richland, Wash., for Community and Mid-Sized Hospitals (100-499 beds)
  • Johnson County Community Hospital, Mountain City, Tenn., for Small Hospitals (Less than 100 beds)
  • ENT and Allergy Associates, LLP, Tarrytown, NY, for Medical Group Practices (physician-owned)

Banner Health’s award came after a lengthy application process. Once finalists are selected from the many nominations submitted, HealthLeaders assigns a judge to conduct an on-site visit that involves interviewing executive team members, touring facilities and gaining additional information to determine what leadership qualities make them unique.

Winners are judged on the team’s overall leadership culture, its ability to overcome challenges and its ability to demonstrate successes that result from outstanding leadership teamwork. Only one winner per category receives this national honor each year.

“We are always honored to receive industry recognition, but this award is particularly gratifying because it is a testament to the commitment, dedication and excellence demonstrated each and every day by Banner leaders across the system,” said Peter S. Fine, president and CEO. “I feel privileged to work with top leaders who live our mission of making a difference in people’s lives through excellent patient care.”

The winning organizations will be profiled in the October issue of HealthLeaders magazine. View more information about the winners.
