Healthy baby, speed dating event to showcase maternity services

SUN CITY WEST (Aug. 17. 2011) – Would you date your doctor? Maybe not, but taking the time to interview an obstetrician before choosing him or her to deliver your baby is a wise thing to do.

A speed dating event, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Saturday, Sept. 24, at Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center in Sun City West, gives expecting parents the chance to see if their childbirth philosophy and needs align with prospective obstetricians.

Whether already pregnant, soon-to-be pregnant or planning for the near future, the speed dating concept pairs parents with obstetricians in private, one-on-one 10 minute interviews. Meeting face-to-face outside the clinical setting offers you a unique opportunity to find out if the OB is the perfect fit for your maternity and birthing needs.

The Speed Dating event is part of a healthy baby fair that will showcase the maternity services at Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center.  Parents will have the opportunity to take our famous Pickles & Ice Cream Tour of The Nesting Place Birthing Suites as well as visit information booths and learn more about the hospital and all its offerings, including our extensive childbirth and parenting class offerings. Attendees are encouraged to call (602) 230-CARE (2273) and tell the operators if they would like to participate in the speed dating portion of the fair. For more information, please call (623) 214-4418.

“We are so excited about this event as it will give women the chance to find the physician they feel most comfortable with,” said Gina Herrera, manager Prenatal Education and Outreach. “Being able to interview a physician can help women determine if the doctor shares their beliefs about birth control, delivery methods, parenting and other concerns.”

This event also gives the community a chance to become more familiar with the Surprise-area hospital's stellar maternity services.

“We find that the parents who are familiar with our hospital either from our Pickles & Ice Cream Tour or our other parenting classes, feel at ease and more knowledgeable when the time comes for them to deliver,”

Herrera added. “Our Healthy Baby Fair and Speed Dating event is just one more layer to providing this familiarity.”
