Mystie Johnson becomes new CMO of Banner Del E. Webb
SUN CITY WEST (Oct. 21, 2011) – Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center has a new top doc in Mystie Johnson, MD, who became the facility’s chief medical officer this month.
“I’m excited to be in a position where I can have a bigger impact on patients,” Dr. Johnson said. “When you are a doctor, you can benefit several patients a day, and this is on a much grander scale.”
As the CMO, Johnson works with the physicians to ensure their work at Banner Del E. Webb runs smoothly.
“I help physicians negotiate their way through the hospital’s procedures and policies,” Dr. Johnson said. “We’re in this as a team, and we all have the same goal – excellent patient care.”
Dr. Johnson grew up in Wyoming, but moved to Arizona in 1987. She went to medical school at the University of Arizona and did her residency at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix.
After her training, she opened her practice, West Valley Women’s Care, on the campus of what would soon become Banner Estrella Medical Center.
The practice grew from two to nine physicians by 2011, and in that time, Dr. Johnson also started an OB/GYN hospitalist program at Banner Estrella. She also served as the OB/GYN department chair and vice-chief of staff. In her time at Banner Health, Dr. Johnson has been instrumental in the introduction of electronic medical records in the organization.
Now as the CMO of Banner Del E. Webb, Dr. Johnson plans on being an active resource for doctors, and using her background in the OB/GYN field to support the nonprofit hospital’s Louisa Kellam Center for Women’s Health and its Nesting Place Obstetrical Suites.
One of her first impressions of Banner Del E. Webb is how much the staff cares about their patients and enjoy their jobs.
“I was just so impressed with how many passionate people there are here,” Dr. Johnson said. “Everyone truly loves what they do.”
