NCMC Spirit of Women receives national recognition
GREELEY, Colo. (Nov. 23, 2011) — North Colorado Medical Center has announced that Spirit of Women Health Network has selected the Greeley hospital as a Spirit of Women Premier Hospital.
The selection is based on an evaluation using the National Standards of Excellence in Women’s Health which measure excellence in women’s healthcare and community outreach. The standards were developed by Spirit of Women Health Network in educational consultation with the Office of Women’s Health as part of the Department of Health and Human Service.
“Few hospitals in our country, and even the world, recognize how to provide appropriate medical care, preventative medical care and educational services for women.” Tanya Abreu, president and national program director for Spirit of Women Health Network “North Colorado Medical Center is one of a very small number of facilities in our country that provides exceptional women-centered medical care, and as a result will be identified as a community accelerator for women’s health excellence in the United States.”
As part of a comprehensive evaluation process, NCMC demonstrated innovation and excellence in women’s programming across the board and earned the designation as a Premier Hospital meeting or exceeding at least 80 percent of the standards. The National Standards of Excellence in Women’s Health require focus on women-centered care, call-to-action education, and access to care in the following seven areas:
- Integration of a focused community assessment
- Implementation of comprehensive life stage programming
- Sensitivity to community diversity and cultural differences
- Strategic alignment of women’s service lines
- Leading innovation and outreach initiatives
- Managing a process for quality improvement
- Multidisciplinary approach to care
“It is most rewarding to be nationally recognized for programs that we believe have been so important for women of all ages in the greater Greeley area including a state of the art cancer institute and comprehensive breast center offering cancer education for all types of cancers with age and genders specific information, sports medicine face sheets focused on mid-life women, Somali Doula program, adolescent dating and violence, diabetes education program, and community/worksite wellness programs,” said Kris Howard, NCMC Spirit of Women manager. “As Spirit of Women is in an ideal position to assess the range and scope of health issues facing American women today, this honor is particularly meaningful.”
