Banner Del E. Webb honors its nurses
SUN CITY WEST, Ariz. (May 9, 2012) – To celebrate Nurses Week, Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center honored several nurses May 7 for their contributions to their field.
The 2012 Banner Del E. Webb Nursing Award recipients are as follows:
Contribution to Society winner Mary Carillo is described as a rock star nurse. She is always putting patients above all here at work and in the community. Carillo is known for volunteering at Maggie’s Place helping single moms make it in the community. She is trying to set up a program to have some of the women volunteer here at the hospital to prepare them for the medical field. She is hard working and dedication to her patients and profession.
Contribution to the Profession winner Deb Liable has led Banner Del E. Webb in stroke care. She organizes and leads annual community stroke screening to serve the needs of our surrounding community. Her contribution to the profession is never ending. Liable works at the unit or individual staff level to implement stroke education and support. She has guided all of us in implementation of multidisciplinary stroke rounds on 4B to follow stroke guidelines/core measures in the patient’s plan of care. Overall she leads us in planning, implementing and providing the best care possible for the stoke population.

She is well recognized for her clinical expertise in providing patients with the unique care they require. She provides education to the staff in formal and informal setting on a daily basis as she rounds on patients and reviews wound documentations. She is the lead person in conducting the National Database for Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) at BDWMC’s skin prevalence studies assuring the data is collected a reported accurately. As a bedside nurse she role models ethical nursing practice by always respecting the privacy of patients and consistently demonstrates professional and clinical expertise. She is respected for her knowledge and for being a Clinical Expert RN.

As Director of Medical Surgical Services, her clinical outcomes, staff engagement and patient experience reflect her strong leadership and patient advocacy. In December 2011, she accepted the Interim Chief Nursing Officer position and was highly effective and respected for her abilities in this role. In February 2012, she successfully obtained Board Certification in Nurse Executive Advanced through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She is highly involved in multiple process improvement teams.
The Surgical Family Waiting Room Pre-op and PACU Volunteers won the Friend of Nursing Award. It is their patient focused hard work that has allows Banner Del E. Webb satisfaction survey scores rise consistently. All the Pre-op and PACU nurses agree that our job would be almost impossible without them. They have identified many process improvements and submitted suggestions, many of which have been implemented. Several of the volunteers now start at 5 a.m. when they noticed that patients arrived to an empty dark waiting room. Their passion for their fellow mankind spurs them on to arrive early, stay late if needed and always smile and exude positive energy. This group of volunteers works in a fast-paced, quick-turnover environment that cannot be filled by just any person. The help to the nurses allows them to provide the excellent care to our patient that is priceless.
