Banner Del E. Webb remodels SAGE unit

SUN CITY WEST, Ariz. (July 16, 2012) – Patients in the SAGE unit at Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center now have a more pleasant environment, thanks to generous donations from the community.

The SAGE (Support, Adaptation, Growth, Enrichment) Inpatient Unit at Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center offers one of the few programs in Arizona that treats patients who need simultaneous medical and behavioral health care.

The SAGE Unit combines psychiatric care with medical care for patients whose treatment requires hospitalization. Patients on SAGE have a wide variety of behavioral health issues, including but not limited to Alzheimer’s and dementia.

The Sun Health Foundation, with the help of generous contributions from the community, donated about $500,000 for the renovations.

“The SAGE Unit has been here at Banner Del E. Webb since the hospital opened in 1988, so nearly 25 years,” said the hospital’s CEO, Debbie Flores. “This is the first time this unit has been remodeled since it opened.”

She lauded the community partnership with the Sun Health Foundation.

“It’s partnerships like these that remind us that we truly are a community hospital,” Flores said.

The unit’s carpeting has been replaced with vibrant tiles, which include a green walking path for patients who like to pace the unit. The nursing station has been expanded and remodeled to give the nurses a 360 degree view of patients. Half-walls and half-doors were created in each private patient room to separate the bathroom, with the intention of still giving the patient privacy while ensuring their safety. The common area for television/games and for meals received all new furnishings.

The hospital provides inpatient hospitalizations services for geriatric/psych patents ages 55 and older.
