NCMC, Inc. and Banner Health announce extended operating agreement

GREELEY, Colo. (Aug. 21, 2012) – The NCMC, Inc. Board of Directors and Banner Health have approved an operating agreement that will extend the working relationship between the two parties through 2027.

Banner Health operates North Colorado Medical Center (NCMC) in Greeley and several other health care facilities and services throughout northern Colorado.

The agreement also clears the way for implementation of a new $60 million Master Campus Plan for the NCMC facility. Hospital revenue bonds have been issued on behalf of NCMC, Inc. to fund the project. Banner will continue to invest in the community by repaying NCMC, Inc. for the project funding under the terms of the operating agreement.
NCMC, Inc. entered into an operating agreement with Lutheran Health Systems in 1995. Lutheran Health Systems and the Samaritan Health System (AZ) combined to form Banner Health in 2000.

“In 1994, members of the Board began looking at the type of arrangements that would be necessary to succeed in the future,” said Al Dominguez, President and Chairman of NCMC, Inc. “It was clear to the Board that affiliation with a larger system would strengthen our ability to continue to meet the health care needs of residents in our service area. Our operating agreement relationship with Banner Health over the past 17 years has provided world-class care, outstanding health care professionals and quality outcomes for our patients in the local community.”

Banner Health has become a leader in the nonprofit health care field, recognized for clinical excellence and innovation. In addition to continually providing state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, Banner has adopted new and significant practices and processes such as evidence-based medicine, integrated electronic medical records, electronic intensive care patient monitoring, physician employment models, telemedicine and partnerships with other health care providers such as Kaiser Permanente. NCMC, Inc. and Banner also recently opened a new Emergency department facility in west Greeley.

The NCMC Master Campus Plan will provide for a new, expanded laboratory; a new pharmacy; significant upgrades to the main kitchen and food service area; and major upgrades in the utility infrastructure of the hospital. Although upgrade, renovation and expansion projects have occurred frequently in its 108-year history, the central building on the NCMC campus was completed in 1952. The utility upgrades will prepare the campus for renovation and replacement needs long into the future. The project will be completed in phases from late 2012 through 2015.

“We are pleased with the quality of health care provided by Banner and look forward to continuing to work with them into the future,” Dominguez said.

North Colorado Medical Center is a fully accredited, private, nonprofit facility licensed to operate 378 beds. It serves as a regional medical center with community-based and specialty services in a service area including southern Wyoming, western Nebraska, western Kansas and northeastern Colorado.

Headquartered in Phoenix, Banner Health is one of the largest, nonprofit health care systems in the country. The system manages 23 acute-care hospitals, the Banner Health Network and Banner Medical Group, long-term care centers, outpatient surgery centers and an array of other services including family clinics, home care and hospice services, and a nursing registry.
