Banner Health/North Colorado Medical Center begins west Greeley emergency department expansion preparation

GREELEY, Colo. (March 8, 2012) – North Colorado Medical Center, a Banner Health facility, has nearly completed the interior demolition phase on the facility to be used for extension of emergency department services to west Greeley.

The service will be located in the building adjacent to the Summit View Urgent Care Center at 2001 70th Ave. in west Greeley.  Renovation and re-construction on the 11,000-square foot area will begin upon receipt of building permits later in March. The project is valued at $5.9 million.

“The expansion will result in an expanded scope of emergency services and technology for west Greeley and surrounding areas,” said Marilyn Fain, director of Emergency and Trauma Services at NCMC. “And we will have the benefit of transferring patients who need hospitalization to NCMC to receive their hospital care locally.”

The project includes a patient triage area, exam rooms, procedure rooms, continuing care bays, medical imaging including CT scan and X-ray equipment and laboratory testing services.

The NCMC ED service at the Summit View campus is scheduled to open Aug. 1, 2012. When completed, the west Greeley emergency facility will be staffed with board-certified physicians specializing in emergency medicine 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition, it is currently estimated that up to 25 new jobs will be created in the community with registered nurses, medical technicians, radiology technicians, security personnel and patient financial services staff necessary to operate the facility.

“We’re extremely pleased with the progress on this project to expand services and access to outstanding local physicians at this site for residents of Greeley, Windsor and other areas,” said Rick Sutton, NCMC chief executive officer.  “We look forward to providing a highly coordinated patient care experience that is convenient, high quality and to the benefit of our community.”

The architect for the project is Davis Partnership Architects. The general contractor is Greeley-based Hensel Phelps Construction Company.
