Banner Health sponsors Power over Parkinson’s Conference


PEORIA, Ariz. (Sept. 18, 2012) –  More than 1.5 million people in the United States are affected with Parkinson’s Disease, which is a disorder in the body’s central nervous system.

Banner Health is partnering with the Arizona Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association to bring an educational event to the Valley. The 2012 Power Over Parkinson’s Community Educational Conference is slated for 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 at Rio Vista Recreation Center, 8866 W. Thunderbird Road, Peoria.

The event open to the public and costs $20 per person. A continental breakfast and lunch are included in the registration fee. Reserve your space online at

Speakers and topics include:

  • Johan Samanta, MD – New Research and Insight into Parkinson’s Disease

  • Sharon Kha – Parkinson’s Disease Rap

The program also includes vendor displays, exercise and fun breaks.

“This is a great opportunity for those with Parkinson’s Disease and their families to participate in a community of others who have had the same experiences,” said Tom Viviano, APDA co-state director and coordinator of the APDA Information and Referral Center at Banner Good Samaritan. “The Arizona Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of Arizonans with Parkinson’s disease and their families.”
