Banner Hospice and Sun Health Grandview Care Center partner to open Inpatient Hospice Unit

SUN CITY WEST, Ariz. (Aug. 27, 2012) — Banner Hospice has entered into a partnership agreement with Sun Health’s Grandview Care Center to open a dedicated Inpatient Hospice Unit (IPU) at the care center, which serves residents of Sun City West.

The Banner Hospice at Grandview Terrace is scheduled to open in the fall, following some minor construction on the unit. Banner Hospice will lease space for the unit, which will have up to 12 private rooms with private bathrooms.

Sun Health Grandview Care Center is part of Grandview Terrace, a Sun Health Senior Living Community located on the campus of Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center. In 2012, Grandview Care Center received national acclaim from U.S. News & World Report, and it is consistently ranked “excellent” with five-star ratings from Arizona Department of Health Services as well as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The community features 288 luxury condominiums and the 133-bed Sun Health Grandview Care Center, which offers residents a continuum of care for acute and chronic medical issues. The care center currently provides general hospice care, but is interested in having a dedicated inpatient hospice unit run by Banner Hospice.

“Partnering with Banner Health to offer a dedicated inpatient hospice unit enhances the hospice services we can offer our community,” said Dawn Miller, administrator for Grandview Care Center. “Banner Health’s nationally recognized care and service provides an ideal fit for Sun Health’s longstanding commitment to health care – both within senior living as well as through its nonprofit foundation, which provides charitable giving for Banner Boswell Medical Center, Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center and Banner Sun Health Research Institute. It’s a win-win for both organizations and especially area residents who will benefit from focused hospice services.”

Banner Hospice at Grandview Care Center will model the inpatient hospice unit after Banner Gardens Hospice House in the East Valley. Patients with life-limiting illnesses receive around-the-clock care in a homelike environment for acute illnesses that cannot be controlled in another care setting.

“We are very pleased to partner with Sun Health Grandview Care Center to bring expert inpatient hospice care to the already outstanding medical care being provided at this convenient location in close proximity to Banner Del Webb Medical Center,” said Amberly Molosky, director of Banner Hospice. “Working with the dedicated team from Sun Health Grandview Care Center to launch this has been exciting and recognized as a much needed service to support the residents of the Sun City West community and beyond.”

Headquartered in Phoenix, Banner Health is one of the largest, nonprofit health care systems in the country. The system owns or leases 23 acute-care hospitals, long-term care centers, outpatient surgery centers and an array of other services including family clinics, home care and hospice, and a nursing registry. Banner Health is in seven states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Nebraska, Nevada and Wyoming.
