Congressman will visit Banner Health clinic for reading program
WINDSOR, Colo. (Feb. 27, 2012) — U.S. Rep. Cory Gardner will read to children at Medical Arts Centre of Windsor in support of Reach Out and Read Literacy Program offered through the clinic.
The congressman will visit the clinic at 9 a.m., Thursday, March 15. The clinic is located at 1300 Main St. in Windsor. The event is free and open to the public.
Medical Arts Centre of Windsor doctors and nurses are sending families home from check-ups with free books and a very important prescription: Read aloud to your children. Congressman Gardner will visit the health center to support this message by reading to a group of young patients. Clearview Librarians will present a short program about early childhood literacy. The Clearview Bookmobile is scheduled to be present.
Medical Arts Centre of Windsor participates in Reach Out and Read, a program that trains doctors and nurses to advise parents about the importance of reading aloud and to give books to children at check-ups from 6 months to 5 years. Through Reach Out and Read, each child starts kindergarten with a home library of up to 10 new, carefully chosen books and a parent who has heard at every health supervision visit about the importance of books and reading. Bilingual books are available in 12 languages.
Medical Arts Centre of Windsor is one of more than 120 Reach Out and Read programs in Colorado. Reach Out and Read reaches more than 81,000 infants, toddlers and preschoolers each year.
