Dementia: Memories Stolen, Feb. Lobby Lecture topic

 

BRUSH, Colo. (Jan. 30, 2012) – The East Morgan County Hospital hospitalist, Charles Kopell, MD and Pat Samples, chief nursing officer, invite area residents to join them Feb. 16 for the next Lobby Lecture Series topic: Dementia: Memories Stolen.

Lobby Lectures will be held in the main lobby of the hospital beginning at 6 p.m. with a light meal. Please use the main entrance to the hospital. 

Dr. Kopell will cover a wide variety of topics including:

  • what is dementia?
  • what is Alzheimer's?
  • is memory loss normal with age?
  • how to know if someone you love has Alzheimer's?
  • the progression of the disease
  • treatment options

The lecture is offered free of charge and will give participants the opportunity to ask questions and receive information. 

Dr. Kopell is a board-certified physician. He graduated medical school from Loyola University, Chicago in 2000. His residency in internal medicine was completed in 2003 at the University of Florida. In 2003, Dr. Kopell started as a hospitalist in South Carolina. He had a private practice in internal medicine practice from 2005 until 2006 in North Carolina. Then came to practice Fort Collins, Colo. with Northern Colorado Hospitalists in 2006 and was with that group until 2010. Since August 2010, Dr. Kopell has been a hospitalist at Sterling Regional MedCenter.

With 25 year of nursing experience with Banner Health, Pat Samples possesses a strong nursing background, leadership, with clinical proficiency and expertise in acute care, behavioral health and case management. Samples earned a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. Currently, she is completing a Master’s of Science in Nursing Leadership at Regis University, Loretta Heights Nursing in Denver.

Lobby Lectures is a series of health education offered on the second Tuesday evening, in September, October, November, December, February, March, April, and May. However, this month it was changed to Thursday because of Valentine’s Day.
