Telephone reassurance volunteers celebrate the season with participants

SUN CITY WEST, Ariz. (Dec. 6, 2012) – Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center’s Telephone Reassurance Program volunteers hosted an annual holiday party for its participants Dec. 3.

“The volunteers so look forward to hosting this event for the participants in this program. The entire program is put on by the telephone reassurance volunteers, everything from the baked goods, punch and wonderful music that was provided by the Sun City Grand Jukebox Junkies,” said volunteer coordinator Charlotte Confer. “The participants enjoyed fellowship with one another and sang along to the great music provided by this band.”

This year, the telephone reassurance volunteers extended their holiday greetings beyond the annual party and delivered poinsettias to about 20 participants who are 90 years and older.

“The participants were so thrilled to receive the personal touch of the volunteers coming to deliver warm holiday wishes to their homes,” Confer said. “This program could not run without this committed group of volunteers. We appreciate all that they do for our facility and for the community alike.”

Every morning, the Telephone Reassurance Program volunteers talk with 115 participants from the Sun City West, Sun City Grand and Surprise area who are living alone or with a disabled spouse and don’t have regular contact with anyone outside the home.

If the Telephone Reassurance staff does not hear from the participants every day, a neighbor is called to check on the person. If that fails, the Sun City West Posse or Surprise Fire Department is called.
