Banner Board approves new Fort Collins hospital
New Banner Health medical center to open in 2015
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (Sept. 7, 2013) – Fort Collins is getting a new hospital. The Banner Health Board of Directors formally approved plans today for a new medical campus to be built on Harmony Road, between Lady Moon Drive and Cinquefoil Lane.
Construction is scheduled to begin Sept. 16 and a public ceremony celebrating the groundbreaking will be held at the site Oct. 2. The hospital will open in 2015.
The Fort Collins facility, to be built on a 28-acre campus, will open with a two-story hospital featuring an emergency department, a 24-bed inpatient unit, labor and delivery rooms, medical imaging, women’s services, surgical services and lab services. The campus will include an outpatient clinic and medical office building. Future growth will be based on demand.
Banner Health discussed the project in two public meetings with local residents Nov. 26 and
Feb. 20. The Fort Collins Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved the campus April 18.
“This new hospital is a foundation of Banner Health’s commitment to serve the increasing needs of Fort Collins whether through hospital care, clinics, or partnerships with insurance companies like Kaiser Permanente, which now has 10,000 members in northern Colorado,” said Peter S. Fine, Banner Health president and chief executive officer. “We will equip our staff and providers with the same industry-leading technology we provide in all of our facilities so they can deliver evidence-based care quickly, safely and efficiently.”
The Fort Collins hospital will be Banner’s third in the Front Range and fifth in Colorado. The nonprofit health care system owns McKee Medical Center in Loveland and Sterling Regional MedCenter in Sterling. It operates North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley and East Morgan County Hospital in Brush. Banner also owns numerous Banner Health Clinics throughout its service area including two Banner Health Clinics in Fort Collins at 303 Colland Drive and 608 E. Harmony Road. It will open the new Banner Health Center at 702-A W. Drake Road on Sept. 9.
