Banner Health successfully acquired full ownership of Ambulatory Surgery Center
GLENDALE (Oct. 31, 2013) – Banner Health has acquired full ownership of the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) on the campus of Banner Thunderbird Medical Center, effective on Oct. 29. With this change, the ASC has successfully completed its transition in becoming the Banner Thunderbird Outpatient Surgery Department.
The BTMC Outpatient Surgery Department, located on the west end of the Glendale hospital’s campus, 5555 W. Thunderbird Road, will allow the 561-bed hospital to consolidate the majority of its outpatient surgeries within the former ASC to provide more inpatient surgical capacity. The added capacity will make it easier for Banner Thunderbird’s surgeons to schedule patient surgeries at a time that meets their needs and the needs of their patients.
As part of the transition, Banner invested $2.6 million into the outpatient surgery space to add an industry-leading electronic medical records system and make significant improvements, including upgrades to the surgical suites (new tables and operating room lights, better patient monitoring equipment and a new C-arm), new work stations, and an upgraded heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system.
The facility has been majority owned by Banner Health with minority ownership by a small group of surgeons. Under an agreement reached with the physicians, Banner purchased the physicians’ minority ownership stake and transitioned the center under Banner Thunderbird Medical Center’s operating license as the hospital’s Outpatient Surgery Department.
