East Morgan County Hospital earns honor for quality

BRUSH, CO (Dec. 3, 2013) – East Morgan County Hospital is one of 22 Top Rural Hospitals in the country according to a national organization that evaluates performance measures from hospitals across the country.

The Leapfrog Group made the announcement at the organization’s annual meeting Dec. 3 in Arlington, VA.

“This award looks at all aspects of the business including how we care for the patient, how well the patient does after his or her stay, how efficiently we can do our job and how we implement ideas to continually improve,” said Linda Thorpe, chief executive officer of East Morgan County Hospital. “I’m proud of our team and of the staff members in our Quality department whose job it is to compile accurate data for these types of reviews.”

East Morgan County Hospital was selected as a Top Hospital out of a record number of 1,324 hospitals participating in The Leapfrog Group’s annual survey. The list includes 22 Top Rural Hospitals, 55 Top Urban Hospitals and 13 Top Children’s Hospitals. Another Banner Health facility, Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center in Sun City West, AZ, was listed as one of the Top Urban Hospitals.

Hospitals reaching this achievement include academic medical centers, teaching hospitals, children’s hospitals, and community hospitals in rural, suburban and urban settings. The selection is based on the results of The Leapfrog Group’s annual hospital survey, which measures hospitals’ performance on patient safety and quality, focusing on three critical areas of hospital care: how patients fare, resource use, and management structures in place to prevent errors.  The results of the survey are posted publicly at http://www.leapfroggroup.org/cp.

In November, East Morgan County Hospital was named a HealthStrong™ Award winner for Excellence in Patient Satisfaction and Efficiency by iVantage Health Analytics. That national award ranked EMCH in the top quartile of 4,400 acute care hospitals across the country including 1,300 critical access hospitals.
