East Morgan County Hospital honors lab manager
Cindy Nestor receives 2012 Employee of the Year Award
BRUSH, Colo. (Feb. 27, 2013) – A 10-year veteran of East Morgan County Hospital has been selected to receive the facility’s 2012 Employee of the Year Award.
Cindy Nestor has been in her role as manager of the lab for less than two years, and is already making a large impact according to hospital leaders.
With a passion for customer service and patient care, Cindy took an alternate approach to working in healthcare. “I did not want to be one of the front-line caregivers, but still wanted to provide a service to patients,” she said. “I found this in the lab where I have an opportunity to participate in positive patient outcomes.”
Cindy explained that behind the scenes she provides information and test results to physicians. Those results play a significant role in the correct diagnosis and treatment for each patient.
According to Cynda Eklund, chief human resources officer for EMCH, Cindy was selected for the honor in large part because of her strong leadership skills. “She has embraced challenges and opportunities and is motivating to her staff and her peers.”
When asked what motivates her, Cindy said it can be an ongoing challenge. “If you show that you are motivated, ambitious, enthusiastic and sincere, and you believe in what you do and show appreciation for others, they will be motivated with you.”
The personal touches help, too. Cindy is known for her fun posters, cards and candy and special celebrations.
“Cindy is frequently thinking of new and creative ways to improve the patient experience as well as engage her employees along with other employees throughout the hospital,” Cynda Eklund said.
Cindy started in the healthcare field at Morgan Community College. She transferred to the medical technologist program at North Colorado Medical Center where she received her bachelor’s degree. She has been working in healthcare for 24 years.
In addition to being recognized as the Employee of the Year, Cindy was recently honored with other Morgan Community College All-Star Alumni.
