Free asthma checks offered by Banner Children’s


MESA and GLENDALE, Ariz. (June 4, 2013) – Banner Health will be offering free asthma screenings at Cardon Children’s Medical Center and Banner Thunderbird Medical Center on select days throughout the summer.

The asthma check-ups will be provided in the Banner Children’s HealthMobile, a fun, kid-friendly traveling medical mobile, starting June 4 in the parking lot of Cardon Children’s Medical Center at 1400 S. Dobson Rd. in Mesa. The screenings will be available from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 6 p.m. The screenings are free, but reservations are required at (480) 412-6344. Screenings will be offered by bilingual nurses.

The screenings are available for school children under the age of 21. Children do not need to have insurance to qualify for the screenings. Future screenings scheduled at Cardon Children’s Medical Center include: June 18, July 16, 30, August 13, 27, September 24, October 8, 22, November 5, 19, December 3 and 17.

At Banner Thunderbird, screenings are scheduled on June 11, 25, July 23, August 6, 20, September 3, 17, October 1, 15, 29, November 12, 26 and on December 10. The screenings at Banner Thunderbird will be held from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 5 p.m. in the visitor’s parking lot at 5555 W. Thunderbird Rd. in Glendale.

The screenings will include:

  • An asthma education session with a certified asthma educator
  • How to monitor asthma at home with a peak flow meter
  • How to correctly use inhalers with a spacer device
  • A personalized asthma action plan and asthma educational booklet
  • Assistance with applications for free medication assistance programs.
