North Colorado Medical Center Spirit of Women hosts ‘Day of Dance’

GREELEY, Colo. (Feb. 11, 2013) — “Day of Dance: I Can Do That!” by North Colorado Medical Center’s Spirit of Women will use a family-friendly setting combined with a celebration of Dr. Seuss’s birthday to create a healthier community.

The entire community is invited to Day of Dance on Saturday March 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Greeley Family FunPlex, 1501 65th Ave. Each year, Day of Dance draws hundreds of people of all ages from Greeley and the surrounding communities.

This fun and free event will feature dancing demonstrations from local groups and individuals, exhibits, games, healthy food demonstrations, health screenings and time to “ask-the-docs” with pediatrics, family practice, internal medicine, allergy, sports medicine and orthopedics represented. Attendees can get important information about sports-related concussions in young athletes and meet players from University of Northern Colorado sports teams. There will be minute-to-win-it games, giveaways and more.

Day of Dance has been helping to create healthier communities for more than nine years nationwide. This is the seventh year that residents of Greeley and surrounding areas will participate in this national movement. Day of Dance events will be held by affiliate hospitals of the Spirit of Women Health Network in more than 75 cities across the United States.

It’s a great time to be inspired to dance. Dancing can burn as many calories as swimming, walking, or riding a bike (as many as 200-400 calories per hour). Many health benefits may result from dance if it is done on a regular basis as a form of exercise.  Benefits include weight maintenance or weight loss, blood pressure and cholesterol management (lowering), increased energy, decreased depression, increased coordination and muscle strength, and an overall sense of well-being.
