Healthgrades Hospital Quality Report names North Colorado Medical Center and McKee Medical Center Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™ Recipients

GREELEY, Colo. (Jan. 15, 2013) – North Colorado Medical Center and McKee Medical Center announced today that they have received the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™ in 2013. The distinction ranks NCMC and McKee among the top 5 percent of more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide for clinical performance as measured by Healthgrades, a leading provider of comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.

From 2009 through 2011, 262 hospitals showed superior performance in caring for patients in the Medicare population, as measured by objective clinical outcomes (risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications) across at least 19 of 27 of the most common conditions and procedures.  Nationally, if all hospitals performed at this level from 2009 through 2011 a total of 164,414 lives could have potentially been saved.

“We are happy to be nationally recognized for the dedication and investment in clinical quality and patient care,” said McKee CEO Marilyn Schock. NCMC CEO Rick Sutton added: “This is further evidence that our employees remain focused on our priorities to make a difference in people’s lives through excellent patient care.”
“Healthgrades helps consumers become more aware that hospital quality matters and differs significantly from one hospital to another, even in their own neighborhood,” said Evan Marks, EVP Informatics and Strategy. “Because selecting a physician and hospital strongly impacts patients’ odds of experiencing complications or emerging from their procedure alive and well, patients should familiarize themselves with the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence recipients. These hospitals stand out for their overall clinical performance across a broad spectrum of care.”
