Banner Boswell receives NICHE designation
SUN CITY, AZ (Feb. 11, 2014) – Banner Boswell Medical Center is proud to announce it has been recognized by the Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE) program as a facility providing quality care to older adults. Banner Health provides excellent patient care to every patient every time, and NICHE has recognized Banner Boswell for excelling in its ability to meet the unique patient needs of the senior population.
The NICHE program is a nurse-driven program designed to help hospitals improve the care of older adults through evidence-based practices. Banner Boswell is one of nearly 500 hospitals and health care facilities throughout North America to follow the NICHE guidelines.
“Our focus at Banner Boswell is to find ways to continually improve quality outcomes for our patients,” said Dave Cheney, chief executive officer at the hospital. “Our team provides extraordinary care to each of our patients, young and old, and is able to meet the unique needs each age group poses.”
The NICHE program is the largest geriatric nursing program available. Banner Boswell is the only Banner facility to achieve this designation. The Sun City hospital was first recognized as a facility committed to providing patient-centered care for older patients in 2011, and has improved a level each year.
“Being designated as a level 3 NICHE facility is truly an honor,” said Cathy Townsend, chief nursing officer at Banner Boswell. “We are committed to providing excellent patient care and this designation emphasizes our ability to meet a challenge facing the current health care system today: quality care for older adults.”
“There is no one single approach to providing care that will work for the unique needs of each age group,” Cheney said. “Team Boswell has proven their ability to excel and become a leader in health care.”
Recently, the nonprofit hospital was named one of the nation’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics, recognized as one of the 100 Top Hospitals based on overall organizational performance for the second year in a row by Truven and now a leader in caring for older adults. Cheney said these recognitions are directly attributed to the hard work being done by Boswell team members, medical staff and volunteers.
