Banner Health Centers host heart health events
PHOENIX (Feb. 7, 2014) – Banner Health is committed to helping prevent the nation’s number one killer – cardiovascular disease - as it launches a nearly two-month long series of events and a webinar devoted to both education and getting our communities out and moving. Activities begin in February which is American Heart Month.
The webinar, “30 Minutes to a Healthy Heart,” is the starting point. This half-hour webinar presented by Dr. David Patchett, a Banner Medical Group family medicine physician, will start at noon MST on Feb. 20 and is focused on what you need to know about heart health. Dr. Patchett’s presentation will focus on small changes you can make in your everyday life to improve your heart health, followed by a question and answer session.
Next up is Day of Dance from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Banner Health Centers in Surprise, Gilbert and Maricopa. Day of Dance occurs all over the United States on Feb. 22 in celebration of American Heart Month and is part of the national Spirit of Women campaign to promote healthy lifestyle choices through education and activities like dancing, movement and healthy eating.
Local dance studios and fitness groups will be on site, helping to get your blood moving. In addition to the exercises, participants will have an opportunity to explore educational booths and take the Heart Age Test. The event is free and registration is not required.
Starting March 1, at the same three Banner Health Centers, you can “Walk with a Doc” for more heart healthy activities. Participants will be encouraged to come out for a light walk on Saturday mornings leading up to the Heart Walk on March 29. Walkers will work up to the 3.1 mile Heart Walk distance while engaging with primary care providers in their community.
Walks start at 9 a.m. at the Banner Health Centers in Gilbert, 155 E. Warner Road; Maricopa, 17900 N. Porter Road; and Surprise, 13995 W. Statler Blvd. “Walk with a Doc” is free and open to the public; registration is not required. Each week provides a new theme, including giveaways and increasing distance goals:

Kick off to heart health with information regarding the Heart Walk, ways to register and how to get involved with the Banner Health Heart Walk team.
- Saturday, Mar. 8: 1 mile walk with your dog
