New CEO named for Sterling Regional MedCenter

Jim Ferando, Banner Health Western Region president, has named Michelle Joy, as chief executive officer (CEO) of Sterling Regional MedCenter (SRMC) in Sterling, Colo.  Joy currently serves as CEO at Banner Lassen Medical Center (BLMC) in Susanville, Calif.

David Baltzer will continue to act as interim CEO of Sterling Regional MedCenter until Joy assumes the role in mid November.  Baltzer joined SRMC in September as interim CEO upon the resignation of Larry Leaming.

Joy has been CEO of Banner Lassen Medical Center for the last two years and a Banner employee for eight years.  Before assuming her CEO role at BLMC she served as associate administrator with then CEO Dave Anderson who passed away in July, 2005.

Ferando noted during succession planning meetings with all Western Region CEOs Joy’s interest in accepting new challenges within Banner Health’s Western Region. “Michelle’s leadership skills and reputation for developing strong ties to the community will serve Sterling Regional MedCenter well,” said Ferando.  “Most importantly, she is committed to furthering Banner Health’s nonprofit mission of making a difference in people’s lives through excellent patient care.”

“Within a relatively short period at Banner Lassen, Michelle developed a strong leadership team, and maintained strong financial performance while enhancing services to the community including: nuclear medicine studies, Computer Aided Detection (CAD) for mammography, Bone Density studies, a 16 slice CT scanner and the upcoming installation of a free-standing MRI unit,” said Ferando.

“My husband, Rocky and I cherish the relationships and friendships we have developed over the years at Banner Lassen and within the Susanville community," said Joy.  “We will not really be saying goodbye since Rocky will commute from Sterling so that he can continue as broker for Joy Realty in Susanville.  We are looking forward to moving closer to family in the Midwest and building new relationships in Sterling.”
