Our Nonprofit Mission
As the leading nonprofit provider of health care in every community we serve, Banner Health is deeply committed to our mission: “To make a difference in people's lives through excellent patient care.”
As a nonprofit, Banner Health exists to provide health care services to the communities we serve, rather than generate profits. That means the every dollar we earn is reinvested into:
- new hospital beds
- new or expanding patient care services
- new physician services
- new technologies
- maintaining existing equipment and facilities
- paying employees’ salaries.
Banner also provides charity care through our Financial Assistance Program. In 2009, we provided more than $80 million in charity care.
In addition, we subsidize the medical education costs for hundreds of medical residents (physicians in training), the majority of whom will stay in Arizona and Colorado, where they trained.
Additionally, Banner provides important, free services like the Banner Good Samaritan Poison Control and Drug Interaction Center Hotline, health information provided by registered nurses through our Banner Health Call Center and school-based health centers for kids in economically challenged areas.
Clinics throughout the Banner Health system also help the working uninsured or under-insured by providing care at a reduced or sliding-fee basis (based on income).
Our Vision is: “We will be a national leader recognized for clinical excellence and innovation, preferred for a highly coordinated patient experience, and distinguished by the quality of our people.”
Our Vision statement paints a picture of what our goals are for the future. It clearly defines the work we must do and connects to the behaviors we must demonstrate to achieve these goals within the next five years:
- Be recognized for clinical excellence and innovation
- Develop a highly coordinated patient experience
- Be distinguished by the quality of our people.
Innovation is a cornerstone of Banner's mission and vision. How Banner defines innovation: "Innovation at Banner is defined as the rapid identification and deployment of strategies leveraging Banner’s operating model and the science of care delivery to ensure an extraordinary patient experience, which is safe, efficient and effective."
