Perioperative Program for RNs

This comprehensive program prepares Registered Nurses for a career in the Perioperative arena. Registered Nurses will learn the basics needed to launch their Perioperative career.

Intended Audience

  • RN who has been hired into a Banner Health Perioperative Unit.
  • Banner Health RN who is not hired into a Perioperative Unit but has interest in learning more
    about this career field.
  • Non-Banner Health RN. (Program Fee: $2500)

Note: Clinical experience is not available for those not hired into a Banner Perioperative Unit.

Program Overview
The Perioperative Program content is based on the AORN standards. The program consists of two parts:

  1. Periop 101 –40 CEUs
  2. Clinical Rotations

At the conclusion of Didactic portion of the course, the Periop Intern will return to their facility and enter a clinical rotation in partnership with a preceptor in a perioperative area.  The precepted clinical experience, including both Scrubbing and Circulating time, while facility specific will typically be a minimum of 4 months or until sufficient experience has occurred to develop the skills needed to function independently at each facility.  Smaller facilities, with a smaller variety of cases, may need less precepted clinical time.

*Non-Banner employees will need to make arrangements for clinical days in their facility.

Note: This program provides only an introduction to the specialties.  The Intern’s precepted clinical experience is critical to skills development. Further education and experience will be needed to develop competency in these areas.
