Emergency Unit
The Emergency Department provides high quality emergency health care 24-hours-a-day to patients of all ages. The department stabilizes and transfers patients to an appropriate facility if a higher level of care is required. It also functions as a base station for assigned agencies and provides medical direction to pre-hospital personnel.
Intensive Care Unit
The Intensive Care Unit is a fifteen bed unit that accepts patients whose medical or post-operative status is life threatening or unstable to the extent that it requires special monitoring by physicians, nurses and/or the use of special equipment not available elsewhere in the hospital. The ICU also provides specially trained staff who can respond immediately and intervene appropriately when the patient’s condition requires that level of response.
Inpatient Medical / Surgical Unit
Inpatient Medical / Surgical Unit is a 25-bed post surgical unit with medical overflow and extended recovery patients. Inpatient Med/Surg specializes in care of CAPD patients (low volume). Seven semi-private and 11 private rooms.
Medical Inpatient Unit
Medical Inpatient is a 26-bed unit including 12 private rooms that offers a diversity of medical patients. The patient population includes inpatient adult and geriatric patients requiring acute care services. Acuity of patients, including a diverse variety of diagnosis, provides an environment for optimal learning experiences and utilization of excellent nursing interventions.
Obstetrics / LDRP Unit
The obstetrical department is a 19-bed, Level II Perinatal Center that supports the family centered care philosophy. The newborns are at the mother's bedside and they receive nursing care as a couplet. Family members are encouraged to be a part of the birthing process. We deliver 170-180 babies per month. We also assess approximately 260 outpatients per month. Examples of outpatient procedures include: non-stress tests, amniocentesis, external versions, and treatment of premature labor. There is 24-hour anesthesia coverage for pain management of the laboring mothers. Cesarean Sections are done in our surgical suites.
Oncology Unit
Oncology is a 26-bed unit including 12 private rooms specializing in the care of patients with variety of cancer diagnoses. The Oncology Unit provides an environment for optimal learning experiences and utilization of excellent nursing interventions. The unit is presented with a patient population diverse with hematological abnormalities and may require chemotherapeutic drug or radiographic intervention. The interdisciplinary team meets daily to assist with patient care needs. In addition, our unit offers Music Therapy, Relaxation Program, Complimentary Therapies, and Pet Therapy for our patients.
Orthopedic Unit
The Orthopedic Unit is an inpatient unit, specializing in joint replacement, shoulder injuries, back injuries and other orthopedic diagnosis. Our Institute remains on the cutting edge of medical science by promoting new procedures such as the minimally invasive total joint procedures. Orthopedic promotes a positive environment from the beginning of the rehabilitation process following both elective and emergency surgical intervention for orthopedic issues.
Post Surgical Unit
Twenty four-bed post surgical unit with medical overflow and extended recovery patients. Unit specializes in care of CAPD patients (low volume). Seven semi-private and 11 private rooms. Predominant populations are patients with general surgery and medical patients. Unit receives all CAPD admissions that do not require critical care interventions. The unit also has the opportunity to care for:
- Surgical and medical patients who require short term cardiac monitoring
- Remote monitoring and support from "sister" Telemetry unit on 7 South
- Same day surgery patients that require and extended recovery period beyond PACU
Pre-op/PACU Unit
The Pre-op / PACU area at Banner Baywood Medical Center cares for adult and some pediatric patients during their peri-anesthesia experience. A wide variety of patients are cared for in the immediate post-op period following different types of surgeries, including general, orthopedic, gynecological, urological, peripheral vascular, ENT, oral/maxillofacial, and plastics. Nurses in these areas are expected to work either pre-op or PACU. RNs work with EKG monitors, ventilators, pulse oximetry, and all types of lines, including arterial, CVP, and Swan Ganz. PACU nurses care for intensive care patients, in and out patients, as well as assisting with central line placements.
Surgery Unit
The surgery department consists of seven operating suites and one cysto suite. The focus of care is centered on the provision of surgical interventions for patients with General Surgical, Orthopedic, Gynecological, Urological, Peripheral Vascular, ENT, Oral/Maxillofacial, and Plastics needs. The surgery unit houses the latest technological advancements in laparoscopic, endoscopic, arthroscopic, and cystoscopic surgeries. Every operating suite is equipped with booms and endoscopic capabilities.
Telemetry Unit
Telemetry is comprised of three units with over 70 beds. The first unit monitores acute stroke unit with medical cardiology overflow. The other two units are an aggressive, medical cardiology unit. Patients require continuous cardiac monitoring and may be on cardiac drips requiring titration. The units may also take overflow medical patients or surgical patients requiring telemetry interventions, depending on availability.
