Innovative program aims to attract nurses and support downtown Phoenix's redevelopment initiative
Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center Relocation Plus program offers a $3,000 incentive to out-of-state nurses coming to work at Banner Good Samaritan. Nurses who participate in this program are required to:
- Work at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center
- Live in the downtown, central Phoenix area for two years
- If they leave the hospital or the area prior to two years, they must re-pay the $3,000.
Research shows that downtown, central Phoenix has far fewer nurses living in the area than other parts of the Valley. Yet, this area has the most hospitals. There is currently a 0.65 nurse-to-bed ratio in the Central Phoenix market compared to 3.97 nurse-to-bed ratio in the East Valley and 2.22 in the Northwest Valley.
Downtown Phoenix has stepped up efforts to make the urban area more desirable. The area has affordable upscale apartments and housing as well as movie theaters, shopping, a variety of restaurants, galleries, and sporting events. The central location and modern conveniences make the heart of the city ideal to live in.
Since Phoenix is one of the fastest growing cities in the United States, Good Samaritan wants to help the downtown Phoenix area thriving. By encouraging staff to relocate to the urban-core, the hospital hopes to strengthen the existing partnership with the city as well as attract more nurses to the area.
