Banner Thunderbird Medical Center Careers

Banner Thunderbird CareersWe are proud of our history and we are excited about where we are going.

Banner Thunderbird has provided excellent nonprofit health care to the residents of Glendale and the Northwest Valley since 1960. In 1983, Glendale Samaritan Hospital moved to its current location on Thunderbird Road and changed its name to Thunderbird Samaritan Medical Center.

Today, Banner Thunderbird Medical Center is one of the largest health care providers in the Phoenix market. As part of Banner Health, the state's largest nonprofit health care provider, Banner Thunderbird has kept many of its traditional community roots while growing into the area’s leading tertiary care facility.

Banner Thunderbird ranks among the highest in patient and employee satisfaction in the country and is recognized as having a "world class working environment" by The Gallup Organization.

Banner Thunderbird has 409-acute care beds, serving more than 200,000 residents each year. In 2009, the hospital added 188 beds with the completion of a new patient tower, Emergency department and expansion of all major service lines.

Work Environment
Considering the size and volume of the hospital, Banner Thunderbird has maintained much of its community roots, maintaining strong working relationships with physicians and community leaders. Hospital administration and department leaders have a strong reputation for visiting with staff all hours of the day. This has created an open dialogue between leadership and staff, which has fostered a “can-do” attitude towards projects. Much of this can be seen in the successful implementation of electronic medical record (EMR). Banner Thunderbird was the first large existing Banner hospital to use EMR. As Banner has opened newly built hospitals, those model facilities opened with EMR in place. When Banner was looking for the first existing hospital to convert to EMR, they looked no further than Thunderbird.
