General Description of the NCMC Medical/Telemetry Unit

The medical unit is a 15-bed private-bed acute-care unit with the potential to increase to 22 beds using the semi-private capabilities in an overflow situation as staffing allows.

Unit professionals primarily provide care for adult patients with a medical diagnosis. The primary disease categories treated on this unit include:

• respiratory disorders
• renal disorders
• digestive disorders
• hepatobiliary disorders
• endocrine/metabolic disorders
• infectious disease disorders

The inpatient dialysis unit is located near the unit in an effort to decrease transport of patients requiring dialysis throughout the facility.

Medical unit staffing is determined using a staffing matrix as a guideline with alterations based on patient acuities and skill levels of personnel.

Employees of this unit include registered nurses, a clinical manager, a clinical nurse specialist, a clinical resource coordinator, certified nurse assistants, and business associates.
