Wheatland is the county seat and largest town in Platte County. This community is set amid farms and ranches that are irrigated by the largest privately owned irrigation system in the country.

A family-centered town, Wheatland is primarily an agricultural community, and boasts a large, clean industrial plant and many small businesses. Wheatland is proud of the medical facilities at the Platte County Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home.

For a small western town, Wheatland is quite modern and progressive. The Laramie River Station (LRS) power plant is located six miles northeast of Wheatland. LRS was constructed for a cost of $1.6 billion. It represents one of the largest consumer-owned regional joint power supply programs in the United States. In addition, the community supports a substantial parks system, including a 9-hole golf course, and church and civic activities help hold this tight-knit community together.

Wyoming
Torrington is located on the North Platte River in Goshen County in the Southeast corner of Wyoming. Torrington is 84 miles north of Cheyenne, Wyo, and 184 miles north of Denver, Colo. Scottsbluff, Neb. is 30 miles to the east, and Casper, Wyo. is 145 miles to the northwest.

Torrington boasts one of the lowest costs of living in the state and has also been named the cleanest city in Wyoming. The principal industry for Goshen County is agriculture. Sugar beets, potatoes, beans, corn, wheat and other grains, and alfalfa are all grown in the area. More than 20,000 cattle are raised and marketed in Goshen County, which makes it the state's leading beef producer. Along with agriculture, Torrington also has industry. There is a sugar plant where the locally grown sugar beets are processed and an ethanol plant processes locally grown corn just south of town.

It is a small community but there is a little of everything. Torrington has a hospital, doctors, dentists and all the necessities of life. Along with what you may need, there are all the extras: motels, a movie theater, a golf course, a swimming pool, parks, a bowling alley, and numerous denominations of churches. Other recreation can be found at the Dale Jones Swimming Pool in Torrington, the Lingle Municipal Pool and the Torrington Municipal Golf Course. The Goshen County indoor arena and Rendezvous Center is the host site of many events throughout the year and youth baseball and softball games fill the summer evenings in the County. The area is known for its hunting and fishing, with plentiful antelope, mule deer, white tail deer, wild turkeys, pheasants, ducks, and geese that populate the area, in addition to access to great fishing.

In addition to a low cost of living, the area also enjoys mild seasons year-round. The area typically escapes the severe winter storms that hit surrounding areas. Considered "The Gateway to the West," Goshen County is a historically rich area. The Cheyenne-Deadwood Stage line, the Oregon, Mormon, and California trails as well as the Pony Express all run through Goshen County. Nearby, Ft. Laramie Historic Site is a great place to learn about the history of this area through the Living History Program that runs through the summer.
