Off to the Races
Experience the charm of Churchill Downs at the inaugural Off to the Races, Banner Health Foundation’s newest derby-themed fundraising affair championing Banner Alzheimer’s Institute and Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Scheduled from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2014, Off to the Races at El Chorro - Casa Paloma Pavilion, captures the flavor and spirit of Southern hospitality while bringing to life the pageantry of the celebrated Kentucky Derby.
Guests will relish the splendor and sophistication of the storied Run for the Roses with an afternoon steeped in tradition. Paying tribute to the Bluegrass State, they’ll sip sweet tea and mint juleps; feast on Southern favorites like fried green tomatoes, burgoo stew and cheese grits; and delight in a display of desserts featuring Kentucky Derby pie and macaroons, to name a few.
Ladies donning fabulous hats and gents dressed to the nines will mix and mingle while partaking in a little wagering in anticipation of the “greatest two minutes in sports” and the chance to see which Thoroughbred will reach the Winner’s Circle.
With classy couture and snappy accessories at every turn, Off to the Races also will highlight an array of “bests” among attendees. With standouts in such categories as best hat and best-dressed lady, gent and couple vying for bragging rights, the afternoon affair is sure to be an exciting blend of fashion, flare and philanthropy.
