From the CEO – Andy Kramer
Construction is underway on the campus of Banner Desert Medical Center and the vision of a new tower to house Banner Children’s Hospital is turning into a reality.  As crews continue to construct the frame of the new tower, designed with kids in mind, Banner Health Foundation continues to build a foundation of philanthropy to support the project.

The Through the Eyes of a Child Capital Campaign involves much more than just raising funds to build a new hospital – it will create a unique healing environment, featuring state-of-the-art facilities combined with medical excellence, to meet the health care needs of children in our community. Banner Health Foundation’s first capital campaign has received tremendous support from the community and currently stands at 77% of its $15 million goal.

In the Spring issue of FRIENDS magazine you can learn more about the individuals, families and organizations that have joined Banner Health in addressing the shortage of pediatric services in the Valley.  We are also proud to introduce to Pam Watts, a Healing Heart from Banner Gateway. Find out why a colleague honored her for making a difference in pediatric patients’ lives at Banner Gateway.

These are just a few highlights of what the next issue of FRIENDS has to offer our readers – the magazine is filled with information about the latest programs and services at our hospitals, details on upcoming events, and much more.  Our donors will receive a copy in their mailbox, and employees can pick up the magazine at one of local facilities or call us at 602.747.GIVE (4483) to request a personal copy. We hope you will find FRIENDS informative and enjoyable, as we spread the word about the importance of making health care solutions a reality in our community.

EVENTS
LPGA’s Best to Tee it up at 2008 Safeway International
Held each spring since 1983, the Safeway International LPGA tournament is one of the most popular charitable sporting events in Arizona.  Mark your calendars to watch the top players from the LPGA tour compete at the 2008 Safeway International Presented by Coca-Cola the week of March 24-30, 2008.  Lorena Ochoa, the 2007 Safeway International champion and 2007 Rolex Player of the Year, will defend her title when the ladies tee up at Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club.

The Governors proudly support children’s health
For the third consecutive year, The Governors have selected Banner Children’s Hospital at Banner Desert Medical Center as its major beneficiary. The Governors, comprised of volunteer leaders from across the East Valley, host a very popular annual ball to raise money to improve community health through education, prevention, outreach and direct services.  The 2007 event, themed Sonoran Sunset, generated close to $70,000 to support community outreach programs at Banner Children’s Hospital at Banner Desert Medical Center, bringing the two-year total to more than $166,000.  Funds will be directed to support various programs including:  Pediatric Asthma Outreach, Pediatric Diabetes Outreach and Healthy Steps.

The 2008 Governors Ball – Hooray for Hollywood will be held on May 3 at the Arizona Grand Resort (formerly Pointe South Mountain Resort).  For more information, please call 480.345.1811 or visit www.thegovernors.org.

Grateful patient’s inaugural golf tournament raises nearly $20,000 to support Banner Heart
Former patient and avid golfer Carol Peterson recently hosted the inaugural “Where the Heart Is” golf tournament to show her gratitude for the excellent patient care she received at Banner Heart Hospital.  She set out with a goal to raise money to support research and increase awareness of women’s heart health and she scored big raising nearly $20,000.  Carol is currently featured as one of Banner Health’s Heart Heroes in our system advertising campaign for cardiology.
