From the CEO – Andy Kramer
Each November, Banner Health Foundation celebrates National Philanthropy Day, designated on the 15th of the month, to honor volunteers, philanthropists and charities for their efforts to improve our community. Like National Nurses’ Week and National Hospital Week, which recognizes those in health care, National Philanthropy Day offers an opportunity to acknowledge those who endeavor to make our local charities robust.
In conjunction with National Philanthropy Day, the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), one of the premier nonprofit professional associations, credits the individuals, corporations and foundations that enhance philanthropy at its annual Philanthropy Leadership Awards Dinner. Banner Health Foundation is proud to announce that AFP’s Greater Arizona Chapter will honor John Kressaty for this prestigious recognition at the upcoming dinner.
John Kressaty will receive the 2007 Spirit of Philanthropy Award from AFP. Mr. Kressaty has been a true champion of philanthropy at Banner Heart Hospital. A dedicated volunteer and grateful former patient, he has created a scholarship fund to memorialize his daughter, who was impacted by heart disease, and works tirelessly on behalf of the hospital to secure financial support for its programs and services, as well as recruit volunteers from the community.
Banner Health Foundation is proud to be affiliated with Mr. Kressaty, and all the outstanding volunteers and donors who continue to partner with us to advance health care in our community. Thank you for celebrating philanthropy with us by supporting Banner Health Foundation.

PROGRAMS
Banner Health teams up with Komen for a Cure®
Banner Health Foundation would like to thank the more than 3,100 Banner Health employees, family members and friends who participated in the 2007 Komen Phoenix Race for the Cure on Oct. 15. Over 40,000 Arizonans took part in the race, raising an estimated $2 million to support breast cancer awareness, research and treatment.
Annually, Komen for the Cure® distributes the dollars raised through its fundraising initiatives to Valley organizations dedicated to finding a cure. In 2007, Banner Health Foundation received two grants totaling $175,000 to support the Laura Dreier Breast Center at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center. Funds will be used to meet the breast health needs of underserved women in Phoenix through diagnostic testing, screening and treatment.
GIVING BACK
Happy National Philanthropy Day®
In honor of National Philanthropy Day® held annually on the 15th of November, Banner Health Foundation would like to take a moment to recognize and celebrate our donors and volunteers, a special group of individual and organizations dedicated to supporting Banner Health’s mission of making a difference in people’s lives through excellent patient care. Each year, thousands of individuals offer their time and treasure to enhance patient care at all of Banner Health’s facilities, and to expand the reach of community programs and services.
According to Giving USA 2007, the yearbook of philanthropy published by Giving USA Foundation (TM) and researched and written by the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University, U.S. charitable giving reached an estimated $295 billion, a new record, in 2006. Approximately 19 percent of the dollars raised were directed to health and human services.
National Philanthropy Day® is our chance to step into the spotlight for a brief moment and remind our communities, our society and the world that the spirit of giving is alive and well. Banner Health Foundation asks that you take a moment on Nov.15 to reflect on all that has been accomplished through the spirit of philanthropy.
