Audio: “The reason I do volunteer at Banner Thunderbird is one, the proximity; it’s about two miles from my home. And I’ve seen the hospital basically grow and I saw that it was getting bigger and bigger and I thought I was in between jobs, I had always wanted to volunteer. Had seen and talked to people who had at different hospitals at different – different organizations, and just always almost envied them, how they enjoyed it, they loved it. And I thought it would be the perfect place and that’s where I started.
What do I get out of volunteering? Total, total sense of accomplishment, of being needed, of being appreciated but mostly it’s being able to help. Helping people is probably the basic thing as a human being we can do for each other especially in a hospital setting everywhere from the patients to the families, to friends; everybody needs your help. Fellow employees, fellow volunteers, it is just a feeling of contentment.”
If you want to volunteer, if you’re even thinking of it, do it. As I said, it is probably the most meaningful thing I’ve done in my life so far.”
