Audio: “I get out of volunteering, a lot more than I give. And I say that because I’ve had people come back to me and tell me, ‘Thank you.’ ‘You do such a wonderful job out there and we so appreciate all that you have given us.’ I just feel that there’s more – I get more back than I give out, and I like to give so…
Encouraging someone to be a volunteer, I would go up to that person and say to them, and I have because I have referred some volunteers to Amy, I tell them what I get out of it and how it comes back ten-fold. I let them know that they can enhance their lives by being able to do that. It’s a way of them getting out and meeting with people and being of good value and good use to people to give the service that they can give.
I’ve been through a bit of challenges in my life. Over the last, I’d say it’s been about 11 years ago, but so I understand what I would want someone to do, therefore I am going to give that to that person. You have a conversation with them to say, you can’t say that everything is going to be alright, because you don’t know that. You have no clue what’s going to happen with someone in surgery, but you do try and give them the best sense of satisfaction, best sense of confidence that you can give them by saying, ‘It’s a wonderful doctor. He’s great, the nurses are super back there. They’re going to take good care of him or her.”
