Banner Poison Control Center
My three-year-old poured a can of Comet into her mouth and I didn't know what to do. I called the Poison Control Center and they talked me through it and helped save my baby's life.
The Banner Good Samaritan Poison and Drug Information Center is a free 24-hour hotline that serves the state of Arizona.
- In 2008, more than 107,000 people used our service for expert and reassuring advice.
- We answer a wide range of calls including what to do if a person ingests a foreign substance, gets stung or bitten, or has a question about prescription drugs.
- About a quarter of the calls involved children under the age of 12 being exposed to poison; more calls are coming from older adults with questions about prescription-drug interactions.
- Our hotline is staffed and supported by specially trained nurses and medical toxicologists.
- We helped approximately 29,000 callers avoid making a trip to the emergency room, saving the community an astonishing $33 million in emergency treatment costs.
