Alzheimer’s disease is recognized as a major health problem and is the subject of some of the most intense research at Banner Sun Health Research Institute.
Scientists at the Institute are studying how Alzheimer’s can be prevented and for those who develop symptoms, how the progression of the disease can be slowed. Our research brings new hope for those affected with Alzheimer’s disease.
The Institutes investigators have developed a method to harvest and grow adult stem cells of autopsied brain tissue from deceased Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s victims alive in test tubes. This breakthrough allows researchers to test first hand different treatments that could positively impact these debilitating neuro-degenerative diseases.
Joseph Rogers leads this team of scientists who are also modifying a technique to grow nerve cells in test tubes, something that could ultimately be used not only for brain disorders but also for spinal cord injuries and paralysis.
