The Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year to provide emergency medical care to residents of Fairbanks and the Interior. Our physicians, nurses and staff are trained in emergency medicine and are committed to providing the highest quality care. We hope that you never have to visit us, but encourage you to take comfort in knowing that we are here to serve you in the event of an emergency. The Emergency Department gives impartial treatment regardless of race, creed, gender, national origin, sexual preference, or source of payment for care.
Fairbanks Memorial Hospital's emergency facilities will undergo an expansion project beginning in the spring of 2006 that will result in a larger waiting room and a better radiology center for emergency and in-house patients. The project is part of the Greater Fairbanks Community Hospital Foundation's long-range plan to turn the hospital into a state-of-the-art facility and will include:
- New drive-through ambulance bays holding four ambulances instead of two. Ambulances will no longer have to back out of the bays to ensure safety with pedestrian and visitor traffic.
- Department expansion from 15 to 24 treatment rooms, plus two additional rooms for triage. Six of these rooms will be for non-emergency patients to provide needed care without interrupting urgent care for other patients. Other emergency rooms will be designed for sexual assault victims and for those who need to be decontaminated after exposure to chemicals or hazardous materials.
- Remodeling of the imaging center for emergency and in-house patient use.
- Relocation of the helicopter pad to be closer to the renovated Emergency Department.
