The Fairbanks Memorial Hospital Surgery Department performs a variety of inpatient and outpatient surgeries ranging from routine to technologically advanced. We offer many surgical specialties including general surgery, orthopedics, plastics, gynecology, urology, ophthalmology, oral surgery and dentistry, podiatry, and ear, nose, and throat surgery. Surgery is provided on both an elective and emergency basis.
Board certified surgeons and anesthesiologists provide experienced, professional care in a safe and comfortable environment. Our surgery department offers state-of-the-art equipment and employs the latest in surgical techniques. Our patients receive private, personalized care and are supported throughout their perioperative stay by specialty certified registered nurses and technicians.

In 1994, FMH opened the $12 million Outpatient Center, allowing patients to undergo a variety of surgical procedures with the advantage of returning home for their recovery. We know that comfortable surroundings make all the difference in recovery - that's why we do our best to get you home on the same day as your surgery.

Both inpatients and outpatients recover from surgery in the PACU. All caregivers are trained in adult and pediatric advanced life support, as well as cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Nursing personnel work in collaboration with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure a successful recovery period and safe transfer to an inpatient unit or home.

Special Procedures provides a variety of surgical, medical and diagnostic services to patients of all ages. Our physicians and staff are committed to the health and safety of our patients and are dedicated to providing the best possible care to Fairbanks and the Interior. Examples of services include pain management procedures, patient sedation and monitoring, insertion and interrogation of pacemakers.
