Volunteer Application Process

FMH Volunteers  

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital/Denali Center.  By choosing to be a volunteer you will provide crucial support that is vital to our hospital and the well being of our patients.  The information provided below will help you through the application process.

The application process includes the following:

  • Application screening
  • Verification of references
  • Background check
  • Fingerprinting (17 years of age and older, conducted at volunteer orientation)
  • Informal interview with the Volunteer Services director or coordinator to determine your interests, training and availability.
  • Participation in an orientation where confidentiality, dress code and safety information are reviewed.
  • Payment of Volunteer Services membership dues ($5 per year for adult volunteers).
  • Proper uniform, ID badge, parking pass and necessary health screenings.
  • Placement based on preferences and schedule. Every effort is made to provide you with a rewarding volunteer experience.

Getting started is easy! To apply:

  1. Please download and complete our application form.
  2. Please download and complete the Alaska Background Check Alaska Background Check Form.
  3. Please download and complete the background check form applicable to you: 
  4. Submit your completed application and background check forms to:
    Fairbanks Memorial Hospital,  c/o Volunteer Services
    1650 Cowles St., Fairbanks, AK 99701
  5. Please allow two weeks to process your application. 

Once the completed application packet is received:  

  1. You will be contacted by phone to set-up an an interview with the Volunteer Services department. 
  2. Background check will be performed (form should be submitted with application).

If you are a good fit for the volunteer program and our current openings, we will contact you for: 

  • FMH/DC facility orientation
    • During orientation, you will:
      • Get a photo ID badge.
      • Learn the history and mission of FMHDC.
      • Learn important information about fire safety, patient confidentiality, infection control and security.
      • Complete necessary health screenings through FMH/DC Occupational Health. Please read the Clearance Requirements Letter
  • Position assignment with site-specific training.
