Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix's music therapy program seeks to bring compassionate care to our patients and their families.
Our goal is to improve the quality of lives of our patients and their families using various musical techniques.
We use research-based techniques such as relaxation exercises and visualization, song writing, improvisation, lyric analysis, singing, verbal emotional support and decision-making activities.
Techniques are chosen based on the patient's needs. Music therapy activities can help make medical treatment easier and provide emotional support to the patient and their family during the patient's treatment.
Music therapy is available to all patients. Most sessions are individual sessions with patients, although family members are often present and do participate frequently.
Weekly group sessions are held in the Behavioral Health Unit.
Music Therapy Personnel
Our staff consists of professional music therapists and music therapy interns. All of our music therapists hold a Bachelor's degree or higher in music therapy from a college or university program approved by the American Music Therapy Association.
In addition, each of our music therapists is credentialed by the Certification Board for Music Therapists. Our music therapy interns are in the process of completing the clinical training required to receive a degree in music therapy.
