Founded in 1984, Banner Baywood Medical Center (BBMC) serves many health care needs of the growing far East Valley of metropolitan Phoenix. The nonprofit, 354-bed facility, provides complete acute care services including care for cancer, stroke, women's health, orthopedics and general surgery.
Our dedication to excellence can be seen in several campus expansion projects. Most recently in the fall of 2006, we completed a $97 million, seven-story patient care tower. This growth included expansion in a state-of-the-art Intensive Care Unit, as well as our Pharmacy, Medical Imaging, Laboratory and Food Service Departments. With this expansion, our former 242-bed count grew by more than 120 beds.
In Feb. 2007, BBMC opened two brand-new, state-of-the-art Operating Rooms (ORs). These ORs are equipped with the latest technologies on the surgical market, including high definition 21 inch video monitors, plasma-screen monitors, in-light camera system capabilities, high-speed printers, in-house and remote broadcasting capabilities and state-of-the-art surgical lighting.
In addition, the Imaging and Radiology departments have seen nearly a 60-percent growth increase in the past six years. Because of this, BBMC recently expanded these areas, adding:
- An MRI suite and scanner
- Digital upgrades
- Redesign of core areas
- Ultrasound room
- 64-slice CT Scanner
- Patient prep and holding area
BBMC also branches out to young families who are expecting new additions to their families. We recently expanded our Labor and Delivery (L&D) department and celebrated its 10th anniversary. In the past year, our L&D department has experienced a 25 percent growth in the number of patients treated.
This expansion greatly increases our capacity to make a difference in people's lives through excellent patient care and continue our legacy of medical excellence in the East Valley.
Later this year, the John J. Rhodes Rehabilitation Institute will move from Banner Mesa Medical Center to BBMC. This is an inpatient rehabilitation program that maximizes patients' functional abilities, prevents complications and promotes healthy behaviors following an illness or injury. We help patients adapt to disabilities in order to enhance their quality of life.
