Banner Baywood Medical Center has a variety of support groups and classes to assist you with your health needs.

Alternative Medicine

  • Acupuncture
    Help your body regain its natural energetic balance that is required for good health. Call (480) 461-2400, select option #1 to schedule an appointment. 

 Cardiac Classes

  • Free Heart Healthy Eating class
    Banner Heart Hospital offers a free "heart healthy eating" class from 11 a.m. to noon the first and third Tuesday of each month in the Fourth Floor lobby. Anyone from the community is invited to attend. For information, call (480) 854-5401.
  • Living Well with Heart Failure class
    Heart failure patients are invited to attend a series of eight classes designed to help them to better understand and deal with heart failure. Classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Banner Heart Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Department. Topics include heart failure and how the heart works; causes of heart failure; nutrition, and sodium  and fluid restrictions; treatments; symptoms; exercise; and living with a chronic condition.
    • Cost is $60 for the series or $7.50 per class. Patients will need a referral from their physician. For more information or to get a referral form to take to your physicians, call (480) 854-5045. 
  • Heart Health Check
    Banner Heart Hospital offers a comprehensive Heart Health Check. The screening takes place at 3 and 4 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday. Registration is required. Learn more about this screening.

Educational Classes

  • Joint Replacement Class
    Prepare yourself and your caregiver for your upcoming surgery by discussing your hospital stay. Meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month in the 5th floor conference room, center tower, at Banner Baywood Medical Center.
     
  • Nutrition Counseling
    Meet one-on-one with a registered dietitian to review your meal plan for a healthy lifestyle.
     
  • Osteoporosis Awareness
    Learn more about osteoporosis. Group meets the first Thursday of the month in the Copper Room.

Women's Services

  • OB Orientation and Tour
    For mothers-to-be and their support person who plan to deliver at Banner Baywood.
    • A one-on-one tour and explanation of services is available from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days per week.
       
  • Breastfeeding Class
    This prenatal class offers breast feeding techniques, including proper latch-on and release, pumping and storing, nutrition, breast milk production and going back to work.
    • Meets the second Saturday of each month in the Copper Room.
       
  • Childbirth Preparation Class
    Prepare yourself for body changes, stages of labor, breathing techniques, positions for labor and delivery, as well as medical options and practices in this course.
    • We offer a six-hour class once a month on a Saturday. We also offer a Thursday class.  
  • eLearning Childbirth Education
    Are you a new parent who needs to know everything about your newborn baby? Banner Health now offers an alternative for new parents who prefer an online class. The program called eLearning is an interactive, Web-based program that includes animated illustrations, videos, voice-overs and games. It can be viewed on a PC or Mac. High speed Internet is advised but dial-up will work; although it will take longer to download. Preview the eLearning experience here   
    • The cost is $75. Once you pay for the program, a code will be e-mailed to you. This code will be valid for 14 days starting from the time you first log on. Your childbirth educator's contact information, e-mail and/or phone number will be included on the program's contact page for questions and support. 
       
  • Sibling Adjustment Class
    Prepare your child(ren) for a new brother/sister, keeping the baby safe, a fun video sharing what it's like to have a new brother or sister, learning to diaper and swaddle a baby, and a birthday party to celebrate the new baby's arrival.
    • Meets from 10 a.m. to noon on the third Saturday of every other month in the Copper Room. Cost is $20 for first child; $5 for each additional child. 
       
  • Baywood Babies Class
    This free class is geared toward women in their first six months of pregnancy, and includes healthy snacks, free gifts and answers to your questions, like "What can I expect?" "Why am I so tired?" and "How big is my baby now?" The program also helps young and needy mothers find free resources and excellent medical care.
    • Classes are from 7 to 9 p.m. on various dates.
