>>>Printable Fact Sheet
The Intensive Care Unit is a combined Medical and Surgical ICU, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. A specially trained team works together to oversee the care and treatment of the critically ill patient.
ICU Reception Area
The family reception area outside the ICU is used by families whose loved ones are having surgery and is a quiet place for families to gather.
Doctors and nurses often use this area to meet with families and talk with them about the patient's condition.
A telephone in the reception area is available for your convenience. To make an outside call, simply dial "9," then the number. You can receive calls on this phone using the number (480) 321-4205.
A volunteer is available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday to answer questions and be of service if necessary.
Visiting Your Loved One
Critically ill patients need frequent periods of rest and quiet. That's why we allow only immediate family members to visit.
We also limit the number of visitors to two at a time. We ask that visitors not be present 7 - 8:30 (a.m. and p.m.), allowing for a smooth transition of care from one nursing shift to the next.
Each time you visit the ICU, please use the phone located just outside the ICU doors to let us know that you are here. Picking up the phone will automatically connect you with the ICU staff.
Acting in the patient's best interest, please understand that the nurse may deem it necessary to increase or limit the number of visitors at one time, depending on the circumstance.
Please make all visiting arrangements with your patient's nurse. After 8 p.m., the only way to enter the hospital is through the Emergency Department. For your own health, we recommend that you go home at night so you can rest.
Spiritual Care
The hospital has volunteer chaplains who make daily rounds for patients and families. There is a full-time chaplain available from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. on weekdays. If you are interested in receiving a visit from the chaplain please inform your nurse. The staff can also assist you in making special arrangements for your spiritual needs.
Patient Privacy
Our patient's privacy is important. That's why we can not give anyone information about a patient's condition over the phone. With this in mind, we recommend that you select one person in the family to be your spokesperson. This person can get information from staff and share it with other family and friends who want to know how their loved one is doing.
Finally, please respect the privacy of our other patients by staying in your loved one's room during your visits. Fire codes restrict people from gathering in the hallways.
Bringing Gifts
Greeting cards are the perfect way to send best wishes to someone in the ICU.
Unfortunately, live flowers and plants are not. They contain many different bacteria and respiratory irritants that can be harmful to our patients. That is why we can not allow them in the ICU. If flowers or plants arrive in the ICU, we will send them home with the family.
Pagers and Cell Phones
Pagers are allowed in hospital areas, but cell phones are not. Phones of any kind can cause disturbances with patient monitors.
